I belive I remember in my class with Doug Bunger that you only need one Enterprise license and the rest can be Server Standard and still maintain all features like HA/DRS Etc within your cluster.

I am trying to argue my point here in the office that this is the case but my ammo seems rather weak (I guess they dont trust Doug like I do).

Anyway, am I way off here?

Would the same apply for an environment that is not clustered or has Multiple clusters? Would you need an Enterprise licence for each cluster or host in that case?

Thanks

Elliott

Doug was actually correct.  You would only need one license server.  All of the ESX hosts would point to that one license server regardless of what cluster they were a member of.  When you buy your license file you would just tell VMware that you have 10 hosts with 20 CPU's or whatever you have and then as you add new hosts you can upgrade that centralized license file.
