JOB DESCRIPTION
The Windows Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and implementing solutions, as required, to support the technical capabilities at our client.  To be successful in this role one must be able to work effectively in a fluid, fast-paced environment.  This role requires excellent communication skills, both with team members and business contacts at different levels. This role will develop and implement procedures for ensuring proactive maintenance of the virtualization environment. In addition, the successful Windows Systems Engineer must be able to work with minimal or no supervision on multiple concurrent complex projects and to coordinate the work of others in this environment. This role requires excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
•   Maintain the enterprise virtualization environment including troubleshooting, performance planning, capacity planning and continuity planning.
•   Lead in the planning, design and implementation of new virtualization technology solutions.  Ensure company standard server technologies are being followed by all business groups.
•   Interact with hardware and software vendors to assure timely resolution to any issues.
•   Ensure servers meet proper performance and capacity standards.
•   Develop new or maintain existing programs based on specifications.
•   Develop, implement and maintain unit tests of programs.
•   Participate in Windows Systems Group projects.
•   Participate in requirements gathering and definition.
•   Leading the design of new or changing programs and producing requisite specifications.
•   Participate in functional test planning and testing for the Windows environment and related applications.
•   Participate in problem solving and troubleshooting for the Windows environment and related applications.
•   Facilitate knowledge sharing by creating and maintaining detailed and comprehensive documentation and diagrams.  Maintain expert level of knowledge in area of expertise.
•   Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the virtualization environment, related applications and projects.
•   Work with the team to ensure the quality of coordinated business functions.
•   Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and take responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution.
•   Mentor less experienced Engineers.
•   Participate in project planning.
•   Participate in design and maintenance of enterprise architecture.
•   Research and implement new technologies to improve the Windows environment.
•   Participate in an on-call rotation for support of systems outside of normal business hours.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
•   Expert knowledge of VMware ESX Server 3.5, vSphere 4.x and ESXi
•   Expert knowledge of VMware vCenter
•   Expert knowledge of SAN storage and the integration with VMware ESX
•   Expert knowledge of virtualization technologies and industry best practices for virtualization
•   Expert knowledge of Windows 2003/2003 R2 server and client technologies
•   Expert knowledge of system and network management tool concepts
•   Expert knowledge of a scripting language such as PowerShell, Perl, VBScript, WSH, ADSI scripting and KiXtart
•   Excellent knowledge of DNS, DHCP, WINS, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP, PXE, NAT and network related technologies such as LAN/WAN topologies, transports and routing.
•   Excellent knowledge of HP Intel based server hardware and rack deployment
•   Experience designing scalable multi-location LOB application infrastructure on Windows 2003/2008 based OSs
•   Working knowledge of supporting non-Windows operating systems in a virtual environment, such as Red Hat and Solaris
•   Excellent troubleshooting skills
•   Accomplishes tasks with minimal supervision
•   Excellent written and oral communication skills
QUALIFICATIONS
•   Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or equivalent experience
•   More than 6 years’ experience in a large Data Center Environment and related technologies
•   Experience managing more than 25 virtual hosts in a Data Center Environment
•   Experience managing more than 250 guests in a production Data Center Environment
•   Experience supporting servers in a LAN/WAN environment
•   Experience supporting HP/Compaq servers
REQUIREMENTS
•   Certification
•   More than 2 years’ experience managing a VMware ESX Virtual Center environment
•   More than 2 years’ experience managing a complex multi-datacenter virtual environment
