Hello everyone. I have a few question regarding ESX Server and Processors with different number of cores and families.
1. Will 2 different servers running Intel Xeon CPU's be able to VMotion if one is a quad core and the other one is a dual core?
2. Also what about if I create VM using a ESX Server with an AMD Opteron Processor, what will happen if I wanted to move and run it off one of our new Intel Xeon ESX Servers? Will it work?
Thanks
1. It depends. You would have to give me the specs on the CPU's and I will check. The number of cores and quantity of sockets really doesn't matter in general. The CPU's just have to be compatible.
2. You can always move between different processor families, but to do it you would have to do a cold migration, which means, shut off the VM and then move it, then turn it back on.
