One of the nice features of the new EXSi 5 is that you can once again use the boot media to upgrade an existing install of esxi, either 3.5 or 4.x.  That was not the case with ESX 4 or ESXi 4.

Of course, there is still no direct upgrade path from ESX to ESXi.  You will need to move all VMs off your host and perform a clean install of ESXi, even with version 5.

Hi
What will happen to ESXi 4.1.1 hosts once vCenetr is upgraded to v. 5. Will the hosts licenses mode chnge to Eval version untill we upgrade the hosts? or will vCenetr 5 will still manage those hosts same as vCnetr 4

Thanks

Upgrading vCenter from 4.x to 5.0 does not change the licencing and host versions from 3.5 to 6.0 are supported.  The licensing for the older hosts rem, ains the same.  When you add new 5.0 hosts or upgrade hosts from 4.x to 5, then you will need new licenses to add to vCenter License Manager from the VMware Licensing portal.
