Converting VMware Server 2.0 vm's to ESX Server 3i vm's

I am really struggling to get our vm's converted from Server to ESXi.
1) Is it possible with the free converter?
and
2) Does anyone have any experience or step by step instructions that have worked?

Run the converter from the VM Vm that you are trying to convert. Starter edition doesn't support remote conversions.
